Styes and chalazions are common eyelid conditions that cause painful lumps and swelling. A stye is an infection of the eyelid glands, while a chalazion is a blocked oil gland that can form a painless cyst. Both can affect your comfort and confidence, with styes often requiring warm compresses for relief, and chalazions possibly needing medical attention if they become infected.

What is a Stye?

A stye is a painful, swollen bump on the eyelid caused by an infection in the glands at the eyelid’s base. It can lead to tenderness and redness. Most styes will go away on their own, but applying a warm compress can speed up healing. If it becomes severe or infected, medical treatmentmay be necessary.

What is a Chalazion?

A chalazion occurs when an oil gland in the eyelid becomes blocked, forming a painless lump, often after a stye. If infected, it can become tender. While warm compresses and massage may help, persistent chalazions may require steroid injections or surgical removal under local anesthesia.
