At Eyes, Lids & Face Clinic, we use Dermal Filler to temporarily soften lines and wrinkles, raise and define your face. When a client comes into us looking for Lip Filler; they are looking for more a plump, defined, and sometimes to create a more even shape to their natural lips.

Getting your lips filled, or having any aesthetic procedure done is often something that can be a doubtful or worrisome experience, which is why we are here to chat about it!

A question we often get asked is; Are lip fillers permanent?

Lip fillers are temporary, and can last up to 6 – 18 months, everyone varies. You may need routine touch-up treatments to maintain your desired look and volume.

How do lip fillers work?

There are a good few different types of lip fillers available on the market. What filler you and your doctor chooses will be based off what type of result you want from the lip filler. They come in a syringe which is injected into the lips and immediately increases the volume of your lip.

Should I expect pain?

The procedure is very quick and painless, thanks to anesthetics given to you before the injections. Most people just experience some tingling and pressure.

After the procedure you may begin to experience some pain or discomfort as the anesthetic wears off. This is normal and should only last a short period of time. Redness, swelling or bruising sometimes may occur. If pain persists however, you should contact the clinic for a check up.

If you are planning to have your lips filled and plump for a special event, we recommend having the procedure at least two weeks beforehand to ensure you’ve completely recovered!

Should I be doing anything to prepare for the procedure?

Of course! Preparation for any procedure is key for a pleasant and safe experience. We recommend not taking anything such as aspirin, fish oils or Vitamin E supplements as these medications thin out your blood and could cause excessive bleeding during your procedure.

Alcohol can also lead to excessive bleeding and bruising, and we will not be practicing this procedure on anyone who has been drinking the night before and especially on the day!

And what about after the procedure?

Ice should be applied to any swelling

Drinking plenty of water will assist the healing process

Don’t wear makeup on or around the area for 24 hours after the procedure

Plan ahead! For any events you may be having

Expect a social downtime of 48 hours maximum

A healthy diet is vital for the healing process

Sport or physical activity should be avoided for 48 hours after the procedure

Your doctor will be happy to go through with you all of the aftercare steps to healing as quickly as possible after your treatment.
